The Statues of Mud

What are we but Statues of Mud?

Is there something else to us other than our bodies, which arise from mud and return to it?

Imagine a mud statue of any god or demon sitting atop a marble stand. If that statue were to fall and break, would the god/demon cease to exist? Would it be the very end of them? No, for their stories goes on and on. Why has the story/the idea behind them survived.long after their statues have returned to mud?

Weren’t Shiva, Rama, Mohammed, Jesus, Buddha once upon a time mere mortals too? Weren’t Ravana, Mahisasur and other demons mere mortals too? Why has the way they lived/what they lived and died for stood the test of times? The Idea behind them, the Essence of their lives is what goes on and on; carrying them forward from one statue to another. Their song is what survives.

Aren’t we humans like that; Aren’t we more than our mortal bodies; Don’t we all have an idea,a story, a song, a dance representing us, forming our identities/ our perceptions/ our thoughts/ our actions. Will the idea behind us live after the body has passed or would it die too?

Now, I have no desire to be immortal; I know my story shall end too; It too shall pass; The big question I have for myself is: Do I want my song to be sung even after I am gone or would I be at peace if it dies along with my mortal parts.

It all depends on how well I sing it in the time I have. My levels of purity, patience and perseverance shall determine how far my song will go; The only thing certain being that even it too shall pass’;

I hope I sing it well;

I hope before I die I spread my craziness

  1. I love this: “Don’t we all have an idea,a story, a song, a dance representing us, forming our identities/ our perceptions/ our thoughts/ our actions.” It seems to me that when we fully embody the story, song or dance that we are, that’s when we, or some essence of who we are, becomes immortal. We sound our own true note.
